Week2 – Day5A

Weight:  183.4

Squats:  5x5x65
Bench:  5x10x55
Rows:  2x10x75 + 3x5x75

Dips:  6/4/2

Prowler:  4 + 2

Prowlers sucked the life out of me again.  Pushed it with no plates on it this time and did 2 sets of runs.  4 reps back to back then 2 reps back to back.  Did 10 reps on the bench again.  The weight is still relatively light.  Rows got pretty heavy today.  Did 10 reps on the first 2 sets then 5 reps on the last 3 sets.  Dips were surprisingly easy today.  Managed to crank out 6/4/2 reps.

Week1 – Day3A

Weight:  182.4

Squats:  5x5x55
DB Incline Bench:  5×50 + 4x10x50
Rows:  5×70 + 4x10x70

Prowler:  10lbs * 4 reps

Dips:  4/2/2

Everything was pretty peachy today.  That’s until I decided to push the prowler.  I was aiming for 5 reps, thinking to myself, “This ought to be pretty easy!”  Man was I utterly wrong.  My legs were completely obliterated in a matter of 3 minutes flat.  I was experiencing all the symptoms of complete exhaustion: head in a daze, jello legs, sucking in air like it was my job.

Other lifts were light.  Less soreness overall.  Performed high reps on the bench and rows since they were so light.

I’m pretty happy that there’s a prowler at the gym now.  The new space below the gym is rarely occupied, so it’s a great place to warm up and push the prowler around.

Week1 – Day1A

Weight:  182

Squats:  5x5x45
DB Incline Bench:  3x10x30
Rows:  5x5x60

Dips:  3

Pretty packed gym today.  3 squat racks were all being used.  Kindly asked a couple who were squatting if I could work in using an empty bar.  Got some confused and/or upset gestures.  Seems like the question did not compute properly.  Decided to clean the bar off the ground, press overhead and drop the bar behind the neck instead.  My right shoulder held up, but I don’t believe any behind the neck pressing movements are the best for them.  Nonetheless, I managed to get my core lifts in.  The two bench stations were also being used and so I was not able to use them.  Instead, I performed incline dumbbell presses.

5/3/1 Cycle 1 Week 1 Bench

5×65 / 5×80 / 3×95
5×100 / 5×120 / 5×135

Felt very confident on the bench press today.  Didn’t feel any load imbalances.  Slow negative to ensure I’m engaging everything equally and then explode upward on the positive.  Used a thumbless grip as well.

Barbell Rows: 5x10x95

Not bad for doing 5 sets of 10.  May switch to performing dumbbell rows instead.  I find that the lower bar position due to smaller plates is causing me to involve my lower back and hamstrings more as if doing a deadlift.

Barbell Curls:  10×40 / 6×40 / 8×40

Supersetted the barbell curls with the barbell rows.  Bad idea.  Both exercises target the biceps and so I quickly suffered from the fatigue when doing the barbell curls on the 2nd and 3rd sets.  Rested a bit longer before doing the last set.

Seated Tricep Extensions:  10×45 / 10×50 / 10×50

Love doing these.  Ever since discovering them while on the Madcow5x5 routine, I’ve always incorporated them in any routine needed some tricep isolation work.

Bent Lateral Raises:  10×15 / 10×10 / 10×10

Not a fan of doing these.  I’ll stick with them for a bit more to see if my shoulder strength improves from it.

5×3 Bench Cycle – Week 3 – Heavy Bench Day

Bench Press:  10xBar + 10×65 + 5×95 + 5x5x125
DB Bench Press:  3x10x30
BB Rows:  3x5x115
Chinups:  3/1.5/1.5
Seated DB Press:  3x10x35
Seated DB Curls:  10×25 + 8×25 + 4×25

Tried to keep rest times to a minimum, at most being 30 seconds.  Bench press was difficult, right arm was working harder.  DB bench press was pretty easy, kept the negative phase slow to avoid straining the rotator cuffs.  BB Rows were a little hard.  I haven’t performed them in a while.  First set of chinups were really easy.  Going to shoot for increasing by 1 rep for the following session.  Seated DB presses at 30lbs were really easy so I went up to 35.  35s were still fairly easy, will start with 35 then go to 40 next session.  Biceps fatigued really quickly after first set on the db curls.

Week2 – Day5 Heavy

Squats:  5×120 + 5×145 + 5×175 + 5×205 + 3×240 + 8×175

Bench:  5×70 + 5×85 + 5×100 + 5×120 + 3×135 + 8×100

Rows:  5×75 + 5×95 + 5×115 + 5×130 + 3×150 + 8×115

Tricep Extensions:  10×40 + 10×45 + 10×50
Bicep Curls:  3x8x50
Dips:  8/7/4

Conditioning:  Incline treadmill @ 2.5 spd – 5 min.

Week1 – Day2 Heavy – The Grind

Weight:  184 lbs

Did the heavy day today with heavy triples.  It was pretty difficult.  I didn’t use the belt on the top set.  The increase in volume is definitely throwing me off.  I’m going to give myself another week to see if I can adjust to the volume before I drop the weights.  I will most likely belt up starting on the 4th set, even, on the medium days.

Squats:  5×115 + 5×145 + 5×175 + 5×200 + 3×235 + 8×175

Bench:  5×65 + 5×80 + 5×95 + 5×110 + 3×130 + 8×95

Rows:  5×75 + 5×90 + 5×115 + 5×125 + 3×150 + 8×115

Tricep Extensions:  10×40 + 10×45 + 10×50
Bicep Curls:  3x8x50
Dips:  8/7/4

Conditioning:  Incline treadmill @ 2.5 spd – 5 min.
